LEARN MORE & ENROLL IN OUR PROGRAMS
Youth Company is a theatre performance program for Ages 7-12. Each Youth Company session ends in a fully-produced, ticketed show with costumes, props and live musical accompaniment. This intermediate performance program meets twice weekly for 14-15 weeks. In Summer, our program is a Summer Day Camp, meeting for 2 or 3 weeks. No audition is required, students are cast according to their abilities and personal & artistic goals.
Teen Company is an intensive performance program for Grades 8-12 (or Ages 13-17). Students in the program prepare an ensemble-based musical or play with music for ticketed performances. The shows are produced, with professionally designed costumes, props, lighting, scenic elements, and live musical accompaniment. The Teen program meets two times a week for approximately 10-12 weeks. In the summer, our program meets as a Day Camp. No audition is necessary.
COMING IN FALL 2018! Little actors making big choices in our Kids Company performance classes! In these 9-11 week classes, students learn beginning-level skills in drama, music, movement. They learn to express themselves, work with others, follow directions, and pull together a complete story with elements like costumes, props and live musical accompaniment. These programs end in a lightly-produced performance of songs and scenes from a musical play in our theatre – with friends and family invited to celebrate the accomplishments of our youngest artists. No audition, and no previous experience necessary.
Fall 2018 classes for Pre-K, K-1 and 2nd Grade will be announced shortly!
ABOUT THE CONSERVATORY FOR PERFORMING ARTISTS
In 2012, our Artistic Director founded Youth Company Chicago, a theatre education for kids, in the Jefferson Park neighborhood in Chicago. The company started with 7 students and two teachers, and six years later, is serving over 1500 kids of all ages in music, theatre and dance programs.
In 2017, The Indiana Conservatory for Performing Artists was born, with studios in Michigan City. The intention is to provide performance programs in several cities around Northwest Indiana, and to introduce the South Shore Children’s Theatre, with professional actors performing literature-based shows for youth & families.
The Conservatory is more than just a school; it is an artistic home where students learn, grow and thrive through their study of the performing arts.
Our teaching artists are guided by SPACE – five values that have formed the foundation of our success with children of all ages:
- Students as Artists
- Parent Engagement
- Access for All
- Challenge & Support
